Both his father Bobby and mother expressed sadness and shocking statements after he was convicted of such a crime.
Nick killed his ex-girlfriend Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s mother Dee Dee Blanchard in her bed, while his girlfriend was hiding.
Blanchard, originally born Clauddine Pitre in Chackbay, Louisiana, near the Gulf Coast, in 1967, was raised with her family in nearby Golden Meadow.
She was the youngest of five children born to Claude Anthony Pitre Sr. and Emma Lois Gisclair.
According to her siblings, recounted in the documentary “Gypsy’s Revenge,” during their upbringing,
Dee Dee’s mother would keep her indoors and claimed she had a heart murmur, exhibiting many of the same behaviors that Dee Dee later imposed on Gypsy. In 1986, Dee Dee participated in a local beauty pageant ball.

Following this, Godejohn was convicted days later of first-degree murder in the June 2015 death of Gypsy’s mother. Additionally, he was found guilty of armed criminal action.

According to Blanchard, Gypsy-Rose had various chronic conditions, including leukemia, asthma, and muscular dystrophy, and she purportedly had the “mental capacity of a seven-year-old” due to brain damage from premature birth.
Prompted by concerning Facebook posts earlier in the evening, alarmed neighbors contacted the police, expressing fears that foul play might have befallen Dee Dee, and that Gypsy-Rose, still in possession of her wheelchair and medications at home, might have been abducted.
The following day, authorities located Gypsy-Rose in Wisconsin, accompanied by her boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn, whom she had met online.
When investigators revealed that Gypsy-Rose was actually an adult and did not suffer from the health issues claimed by her mother, the initial public concern about the possible abduction of a disabled girl shifted to shock and, in some quarters, sympathy for her.
